Tissue Engineering for Blood Vessels
نویسنده
چکیده
The artificial vascular grafts currently in clinical use still have problems with respect to late calcification, restenosis, antithrombotic property, durability, biocompatibility, and safety, and no ideal artificial vascular graft has been developed to date. In view of this, we have been continuing basic experimental studies and their clinical applications in an attempt to develop tissue-engineered regenerative blood vessels. Tissue-Engineered Vascular Grafts (TEVG) autologous cells have no graft rejection potential, and as they are comprised of viable autologous cells, a longer sustained durability can be expected. Eventually, no foreign matter remains, and the lumen becomes completely endothelized. Therefore, no longterm anticoagulant therapy is required post-implantation, and the implanted graft, being autologous tissue, may have higher growth potential: Such artificial grafts are considered ideal blood vessels. We will continue to seek methods that enable less cumbersome treatments that are less stressful for patients in the future.

Vibration Analysis of Carotid Arteries Conveying Non-Newtonian Blood Flow Surrounding by Tissues
The high blood rate that often occurs in arteries may play a role in artery failure and tortuosity which leads to blackouts, transitory ischemic attacks and other diseases. However, vibration and instability analysis of carotid arteries are lacking. The objective of this study is to investigate the vibration and instability of the carotid arteries conveying blood under axial tension with surrou...
متن کاملOverview on Vascular Tissue Engineering: Progress and Challenges
Today, vascular diseases such as atherosclerosis are one of the leading causes of death in the world and the prevalence of it in older societies is rising. The current treatments for repair of cardiovascular function include organ transplantation, surgical reconstruction, mechanical or artificial devices, or the use of metabolic products. Although these methods are commonly used, they did not g...
متن کاملA Case and Literature Review of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus in Mixed Connective Tissue Disease
Normal Pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) is characterized by gait apraxia, urinary incontinence, and dementia. Mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) is an autoimmune connective tissue disease that has never been reported to cause NPH. Our patient was a 67-year man with a one-year history of gradual worsening gait and balance, urinary urgency with urge incontinence and decreased short-term memory. P...
متن کاملA Mathematical Model for Blood Flow Through Narrow Vessels with Mild-Stenosis (RESEARCH NOTE)
In this paper we examine the effect of mild stenosis on blood flow, in an irregular axisymmetric artery with oscillating pressure gradient. The Herschel-Bulkley fluid model has been utilized for this study. The combined influence of an asymmetric shape and surface irregularities of constriction has been explored in this computational study. An extensive quantitative analysis has been performed ...
متن کاملA Novel Adult Marrow Stromal Stem Cell Based 3-D Postnatal De Novo Vasculogenesis for Vascular Tissue Engineering
Vascular diseases are one of the leading causes of significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. Vascular diseases not only occur at all levels of vascular tree but also affect multiple organs and organ systems. Organ tissue engineering, including vascular tissue engineering, has been an area of intense investigation. The current major challenge to these approaches has been the inability to va...
متن کاملPERFORMANCE MODEL AND ANALYSIS OF BLOOD FLOW IN SMALL VESSELS WITH MAGNETIC EFFECTS
In this paper consider a two-fluid model consisting of a core region of suspension of all the erythrocytes (particles) in plasma (fluid) assumed to be a particle-fluid mixture and a peripheral layer of cell-free plasma (Newtonian fluid), has been proposed to represent blood flow in small diameter tubes with effects of magnetic. The analytical results obtained in the proposed model for effective...
